‘Your fight is our fight’: UK MP Claudia Webbe fires tweet on Farmers Protest 2024

Claudia Webbe also condemned the barbwires and tear gas that are used to stop the farmers from going to Delhi.

Claudia Webbe, Member of Parliament (MP) from Leicester East, United Kingdom (UK), on Wednesday expressed her solidarity with the protesting farmers against the Government of India. Independent MP Claudia Webbe took to her official X handle and stated that farmers’ fight is their fight. Claudia Webbe also condemned the barbwires and tear gas that are used to stop the farmers from going to Delhi. Below is what Claudia Webbe wrote on Farmers Protest 2024-

“Indian farmers are peacefully protesting. Supported by 200 unions. Potentially largest strike action in the world..They’re met with spiked barricades and tear gas en route to Delhi..Without a guaranteed crop price it condemns millions to exploitation and poverty…Solidarity to Indian Farmers. Your fight is our fight,” wrote Webbe.

As soon as Webbe’s tweet viral on social media, a user commented, “Do you have any idea about how many states India has and the number of farmers there are in the country? Even assuming all those protesting are farmers (they aren’t) they don’t represent even 10% of India’s farming population or farm production. Get the facts.” Another user wrote, “If we start to get involved with India’s internal protests we will never get anything done in this country.

Farmers Protest 2.0

Over 10,000 farmers are marching to Delhi to protest against the Modi Government over their multiple demands that include a legal guarantee on MSP, India’s exit from WTO, etc. The Delhi Chalo protest was initiated on Tuesday when a meeting between farmer unions and a delegation of the Central Government remained inconclusive. Haryana and New Delhi imposed section 144 to avoid any untoward incidents that occurred during the farmers’ protests in 2020-21.

To stop the farmers from marching to Delhi, the Haryana Government used barbed wires, cement barricades, and many more things. Also, heavy security forces and Police officials were deployed in multiple districts to stop the farmers marching to New Delhi. As a result, a scuffle broke out between the farmers and the Police. The Police fired tear gas and pellet guns to disperse thousands of protesters marching to the national capital.
